Descendants of the Sun

A lot of people have been gushing (up until now) about the Korean drama, Descendants of the Sun. The main characters of the drama are Captain Yoo Si Jin (played by Song Joong Ki) and Dr. Kang Mo Yeon (played by Song Hye Kyo). It has been one of the most anticipated and most talked about Korean dramas of all time and had really high ratings in Korea.

So what makes this drama so special?

Well, for starters, the lead actors are both popular and good looking. Song Hye Kyo doesn’t look like her age. (I mean, is she a vampire or something?) She has been known for numerous dramas like Autumn in My Heart, Full House and That Winter the Wind Blows, among others. As for Song Joong Ki, well he’s pretty much the flower boy that turned into any girl’s dream guy. Me included. How could you even resist a guy like this?

He has been known for the dramas Sungkyunkwan Scandal and The Innocent Man as well as the movie, A Werewolf Boy. So basically, they have shown their versatility in the roles that they have taken up and their acting skills couldn’t be questioned anymore. They have that chemistry that’s pretty much obvious to the whole public. They make the scenes realistic and relate-able as well.

Next would be the second lead actors. I mean, who could forget the infamous love story of Sergeant Major Seo Dae Young and Lieutenant Yoon Myeong Joo which were played by Jin Goo and Kim Ji Won respectively. Their love story has put a lot of viewers on the edge. It could be perfectly described by the words almost but not quite. A lot of obstacles were brought in their way and it wasn’t easy for the both of them.

Now, let’s talk about the bromance between Big Boos (Song Joong Ki) and Wolf (Jin Goo). Right from the start of the drama, the connection between them was shown to the public already. It was further intensified as the drama continued. Sometimes, it makes me want to root for the two of them instead of the actresses that they were paired with. Haha.

Couple shirts? They have it. Haha.

Now that we talked about Big Boss and Wolf, why don’t we bring in Team Alpha as well? They are the special forces team that represents #SquadGoals very well. Team Alpha consists of Big Boss, Wolf, Snoopy, Piccolo and Harry Potter. Each member has its own role to play during operations. In my opinion, they live by the words “All for one. One for all.” and it was shown through one of the scenes in the drama. And really, if you see the five of them walking towards you, you might just want to faint right there and then. If people think that Team Alpha is the serious bunch, then they’ve got it all wrong. They are these bunch of guys who knows when to be serious and when to have fun just like this:

Moving on to the next point, the plot was something that hasn’t been shown before. It was something different (A good different, if I may specify.) and it was very refreshing. The story makes the viewers want more. It’s as if every episode isn’t enough. Adding the fact that all of the actors in the drama played their roles very well, it was a combination that raised the drama to the sky. Descendants of the Sun balances romance, comedy and drama very well and it makes the show far from being boring.

I mean where can you find a show that shows a romantic scene such as this:

then shows a dancing soldier like this:

and makes viewers cry just like this:

Another thing that makes viewers fall in love with Descendants of the Sun is its very good cinematography. The show makes use of the surroundings very well. It makes one want to travel to the places that they have shown throughout the drama. I don’t know how to drive a car but if I would be able to see a view like this, I may reconsider and start learning to drive one right now.

Oh, did I mention that they also have a very awesome soundtrack? The songs used in DotS have been on the charts for quite sometime and that proves something. The songs are catchy and are really nice. It was sung by some of the biggest Korean singers like Gummy and Yoon Mi Rae. Now, who could resist those songs?

After listing everything that really made me fall in love with the Descendants of the Sun, it makes me really sad that the drama has come to an end. I wish it lasted a bit longer. It was the drama that I wanted to see every week. It made me look forward to Wednesdays and Thursdays. All in all, this drama deserves a two thumbs up!

But ugh. Couldn’t it really be extended some more?!

PS. I got the gifs from Tumblr. 🙂
